IBM rolls out new generative AI features and models

Unfortunately, a flawed debut caused a substantial drop in Google’s stock price. Autoregressive models are widely used in forecasting and time series analysis, such as stock prices and Yakov Livshits index values. Other use cases include modeling and forecasting weather patterns, forecasting demand for products using past sales data and studying health outcomes and crime rates.

Heretofore, however, the creation of deepfakes required a considerable amount of computing skill. OpenAI has attempted to control fake images by “watermarking” each DALL-E 2 image with a distinctive symbol. More controls are likely to be required in the future, however — particularly as generative video creation becomes mainstream. How adept is this technology at mimicking human efforts at creative work?

Which industries are most impacted by generative AI?

When demand is low, there’s little motivation for people to utilize or develop the technology. Producing haikus in the style of a Shakespearian pirate may make us laugh and drop our jaws today, but such party tricks will not keep our attention for very much longer. And in cases where there is demand but high risk, general trepidation and regulation will slow the pace of progress. What is generative modeling?

Simplifying somewhat, OpenAI used some chat-specific data to create a tweaked version of GPT-3.5 that was specialized to perform well in a chatbot setting, then built that into ChatGPT. It operates on AI models and algorithms that are trained on large unlabeled data sets, which require complex math and lots of computing power to create. These data sets train the AI to predict outcomes in the same ways humans might act or create on their own. In the future, generative AI models will be extended to support 3D modeling, product design, drug development, digital twins, supply chains and business processes. This will make it easier to generate new product ideas, experiment with different organizational models and explore various business ideas.

What’s more, the models usually have random elements, which means they can produce a variety of outputs from one input request—making them seem even more lifelike. Until recently, machine learning was largely limited to predictive models, used to observe and classify patterns in content. For example, a classic machine learning problem is to start with an image or several images of, say, adorable cats.

In addition to generating pretty pictures, we introduce an approach for semi-supervised learning with GANs that involves the discriminator producing an additional output indicating the label of the input. This approach allows us to obtain state of the art results on MNIST, SVHN, and CIFAR-10 in settings with very few labeled examples.
